Attacks on Rubel
Another one of our mathematics education colleagues, this time Dr. Laurie Rubel, has been subject to attacks for her recent article in the latest issue of the Journal of Urban Mathematics Education, titled Equity-Directed Instructional Practices: Beyond the Dominant Perspective. PME-NA stands with other mathematics education organizations in support of Dr. Rubel’s work, and more broadly, in support of the collegial exchange of ideas around the teaching and learning of mathematics.
As many of you are probably aware, there have recently been attacks against some mathematics education scholars, and in particular against Dr. Rochelle Gutiérrez for her work in the recent AMTE publication, Building Support for Scholarly Practices in Mathematics Methods. PME-NA stands with other mathematics education organizations in support of Dr. Gutiérrez’s work, and more broadly, in support of the collegial exchange of ideas around the teaching and learning of mathematics.
PME-NA has instituted a new scholarship program to cover the cost of conference registration (approx. $400 to $500) for up to 10 scholarship recipients each year. Help to sustain this scholarship program, and broaden participation in PME-NA, by donating today. All donations are secure, and, for those who pay taxes in the U.S, tax deductible. Donations of any size are accepted!
