PME-NA Equity Statement

In November 2019, the PME-NA Steering Committee drafted an Equity Statement to firmly articulate what equity means for PME-NA now and in the future. The Equity Statement was meant to be a living document, regularly revisited and revised. In light of the global demonstrations bringing light to widespread anti-Black violence and brutality, the PME-NA steering committee has launched the first update to our Equity Statement. This update shines a reflective light onto our own field of mathematics education research, a guide for how all of us can not only take on an anti-racist stance, but also recognize the ways racism is invisibly embedded into everyday structures we take for granted. Most importantly, this statement affirms that PME-NA, in all our actions, publications, conferences, and advocacy, stands with Black Lives Matter.
